Features

Favourite Stops

Save your favourite stops for easy access. Never go hunting through routes and stops again! Your house, school, work and friends' stops all within easy reach, on the very first screen!

Nearby Stops

In a part of London you don't go to very often? Not sure what stops are around you for getting home? Let your iPhone figure out where you are and London OnTime can show you a list of the nearest stops.

Maps

Want to load a route and see all its stops and where the buses are currently? We have that! Choose a route and see every major and minor stop, any of your favourite stops on that route and where the buses are, all in real-time!

Lets face it, no one has time these days to scroll through a bunch of stops to find the one they're looking for. With a simple scroll down, a search bar is uncovered allowing tables to be narrowed down instantly.

Pull to Refresh

Gone are the days of hitting a button to reload data. Simply scroll down on the times screen to reload data for the most up to date information. *hint* times will re-load every minute as well!

Addressing Various Issues

November 9, 2012
We've had an unbelievable last couple of days in terms of traffic for the app. We doubled our user base in a day, after the London Free Press did an article about the app!

However, we've had some comments made in various places about the app not working correctly. We want to let everyone know that we do in fact know that the app had some issues this morning, saying buses were not stopping (anywhere) and that most nights during the peak times to get home (5-8pm) the app usually gives a timeout connection error. These are not errors with the app, but are actually problems with WebWatch on the LTC's end. The timeout error is a problem with the amount of people attempting to use the service at the same time. No idea what the issue was this morning, but during our testing the entire LTC site was down. Maybe it had something to do with the bridge, maybe it didn't, but it's fixed now.

We do have plans for future updates to help with these problems. We are looking into adding the entire schedule for each route so that when live arrival times are not returned, we can at least show you an estimate of when the bus will arrive. This isn't a perfect solution, as buses generally arrive minutes late or early compared to those times. It should be better for planning your day compared to timeout errors however!

As well, we know you guys want directions/ the ability to plan your trips and we have that planned for version 3 of the app. Please understand that this feature, above all else, is going to take time (and I'll say it now, will most likely be buggy when it does launch). We are not Google, a company worth 200+ Billion dollars with thousands of software engineers working for them and a product (Google Maps) that has been worked on for a decade. We are going to have to create our own algorithms for determining the best routes for your planned trip. This will take time to make functional, and then make good. If the LTC releases their data following the Google Transit Feed Specification, it will make the functionality much easier to implement, however I can understand why they may not be doing it right now (or in the near future). It entails a lot of work to get setup correctly, and to maintain over time, something that the LTC may not have resources for at the moment.

As for other features you can expect in the coming update(s) are the ability to change the order of your favourites (you can already swipe to delete them), better nearby stops capability (narrow results by route, search for a stop rather than using your G.P.S. coordinates), better looking maps (routes, stops, no pins, etc), better use of the network (only updating old info, not hitting the LTC servers for info you already have, etc) as well as in-app purchases to get rid of the ads, add more customization to the app, etc.

Finally, we are looking for some beta testers to... beta test new releases. If this is something you'd be interested in, use the contact form and let us know. Specifically we are looking for the device you will be using (iPhone 4/4S/5, iPod Touch, iPad, etc) and software version (5.0, 5.1, 6.0.1, etc). As well, please only send us an email if you understand that what you will be testing could (and will most likely) be buggy, that's why we want testers before releasing. This means you may need to uninstall/reinstall and lose your favourites. If you understand that and still want to sign up, let us know using the contact form! Also, please note that not everyone who signs up will become a beta tester, we will only be adding a few at a time.

P.S. We know there are people in London who like the app, but don't have an iOS device. We've gotten your emails and read your comments and know you guys want an Android/Black Berry/Windows 8 version of the app. Please understand that while we are not ruling those versions out, there are only 2 of us and as you've read above there is a lot of work still to do on the iOS version! As well, we are not getting rich off the ads (or probably the IAP when that goes live) so this is a project we are spending our free time developing. Our goal is to simply break even financially and have an app that allows Londoners to make better use of what the LTC offers. If you are an Android/Black Berry/Windows developer and you'd be interested on working on a London OnTime app for your platform (with the knowledge that you aren't going to become the next Zuckerberg), send us an email or use the contact form to get in touch!
